Aptos Shade Garden

Clients wanted a low-maintenance and low-water, yet lush front yard. The garden is very shady so we used plants that tolerate low-light conditions but still flower. The main visual feature is a functional drycreek which connects to the downspout system of the home. All water is directed into the drycreek and percolates back into the ground for aquifer recharge. This also helps the plants need less irrigation as the dry season progresses as the soils hold more water for longer. Plants include California natives as well as other Mediterranean selections, including grasses for texture and movement.
