Design Process: How To Begin

We believe that the design process should be a collaboration with our clients and involve clear communication from start to finish. We follow a sequential process in order to design the project and create an actionable plan, complete with contractors to execute the vision.

First, let's talk on the phone. We'll ask for details of your project, review the site via satellite imagery, and schedule the initial onsite consultation. Once onsite, we will discuss your project goals, conduct site analysis and generate initial design ideas.

Next, we will draft a proposal/ contract for design work that outlines the scope of work and fees. In order to begin design work, we will need a signed agreement and deposit.

Upon initiation of the project, we will create the base plan and develop conceptual designs. This requires multiple site visits in order to take measurements and photos and start to get a better 'feel' for the place and its energy. Photos and sketches will be used for inspiration and illustration of concepts.

Hardscape development and spatial flow of all design elements takes place next. We like to meet with our clients during this phase to ensure we are headed in the right direction.

After review and refinement of the preliminary layout, we move on to the final design phase, where plants, lighting and other features are specified. Depending on the scale of the project, there may be several rounds of revisions before arrival at the final design. For many projects, however, only one round of revisions is necessary. Colored, scaled plans are created and delivered.

We will then facilitate introductions to our network of trusted C-27 landscape contractors. We respond to questions during the bidding period, make sure bids are accurate, and help you select a contractor.

At planting time, we will hand-select the plants and lay them out onsite in the correct locations for mature size relationships.

Through ongoing communication, we remain at your service and completely accessible to you and your contractor throughout construction on an as-needed basis.
